In line with the annual celebration of Negroni Week, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok Hotel set a record for making the world’s largest Negroni cocktail. Guinness World Record adjudicator, Kazuyoshi Kirmura, witnessed the record-breaking event at the Urban Oasis and Bar.Yard on Sept. 12.
The hotel served the Italian drink from an iced acrylic container of 630 liters (nearly 167 gallons) that stood 1.7 meters (5.6 feet) in height and weighed 400 kilograms (882 pounds). The team behind Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok Hotel prepared 210 litres each of its key ingredients, including gin, Campari, and Rosso Vermouth.
The Thai hotel posted on Facebook their achievement as the official title holder for the world’s largest Negroni cocktail after beating the previous record by 126 liters. The hotel's cocktail bar and Italian restaurant will continue to offer the drink in one-tenth replica ice cube glasses while supplies last.
In an interview with online publisher Food & Wine on Sept. 13, General Manager of IHG Hotels and Resorts Patrick Both said that they are very happy to celebrate Negroni Week in Thailand “with a bang.”
