In the realm of art toy production, Thai-Hong Kong artist MRKREME (Worakan Jonghtanapipat) unearthed a fascinating disparity between his original art toy designs and their factory-produced counterparts.  This observation raises the question: “What is originality, and who is defining it?

When MRKREME first brought the character "Mushkin" to life — a whimsical furry monster — unexpected distortions during manufacturing altered his original vision. This intriguing experience ignited a deep curiosity about the essence of originality, especially since Mushkin stands as one of the central figures in the artist's body of work.

As a result, The Bootleg Show by MRKREME features pieces that reinterpret Mushkin through the memories and perspectives of others. It includes paintings, sculptures, and videos that encourage viewers to reconsider the idea that imperfection can serve as a starting point for creativity.

If you're intrigued by history, you'll want to check out a remarkable exhibition featuring glass plate photographs curated by the National Archives of Thailand. This is part of the "Project Glass Plate Negatives: A Thousand Historical Images of Rattanakosin (3rd Edition)." The exhibition offers a deep dive into Southeast Asia, depicting it as a world imbued with divinity.

Step back in time to the majestic reign of King Chulalongkorn of Siam, a period that weaves together the threads of ancient philosophy and political discourse, illuminating the complexities of a world in transformation.

"Circles of Centres" documents a unique period in Siamese history through the lens of Roland Barthes. Here, you will be transported into the multifaceted life of the King — not only amidst the bustling streets of Bangkok but also during his adventurous travels across mainland Southeast Asia, from the serene landscapes of Prachuab Khiri Khan to the vibrant shores of Songkhla, and further south to the Sultanates, such as Terengganu, and beyond.

There’s something unspoken about folded corners. “Folded Corners” is a pop-up exhibition curated by River Art Gallery in collaboration with River City Bangkok, featuring Taiwanese-Canadian artist Yi-Shuan Lee and Taiwanese artist Ray Han. This exhibition serves as an informal marker, existing in the liminal space between privacy and public display — subtle yet powerfully directing attention to ideas that demand to be noticed, revealing layers of meaning that are yet to be fully unraveled.

In this showcase, Yi-Shuan Lee makes a bold intervention in the canvas space with whimsical cartoon-style lines, emphasizing brushstrokes and linear forms that articulate the tension between suppression and desire. At first glance, the delicate black outlines may appear light, but these images resonate with the profound anxiety of a younger generation, caught between the expectations of previous generations and fragmentary cultural influences.

The transition from childhood to adulthood transforms everything. In our youth, play was our greatest joy — a universal language that allowed us to explore and understand the world. Whether we were molding clay or doodling around, each moment of play unlocked new dimensions of our reality and ourselves. Yet, as we grow older, we often find ourselves closing the door on these possibilities, becoming trapped in familiar routines. We start to fear mistakes and overthink how others perceive us, leading us to forget how to fully embrace life. This art exhibition by Udom Taephanich, which is not-so-playful, is a way to reconnect with your inner explorer that once fueled your curiosity.

Location: 8th floor, The Pinnacle Hall, ICONSIAM, 299 Charoen Nakhon Rd, Khlong Ton Sai, Khlong San, Bangkok 10600
