Facebook Back Online After Six-Hour Global Outage
Facebook and its sister apps Instagram and WhatsApp are back online after being inaccessible to global users for about six hours to mark the tech giant’s worst outage in more than two years.
The three social media apps, which share the same infrastructure, were unavailable to global users including those in Singapore around 12 AM on Oct. 5, 2021 (local time) before returning to normal access six hours later.
In a statement posted on its social media rival Twitter, Facebook apologized “to the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us.” It was unclear what caused the network interruption.
The incident marked Facebook’s worst outage since March 2019, when its site was down for more than 24 hours, according to The Verge.
