SEA Games: Maximillian Ang Wins Gold in Men’s 200-Metre Breaststroke Final
Maximillian Ang has bagged Singapore’s first ever Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold in the men’s 200-metre breaststroke event last Tuesday, May 17.
The 20-year-old swimmer not only won the gold, but also broke the current Games record with a time of two minutes and 11.93 seconds.
“I still can't believe I've won the gold and broken both the national record and the Games record,” Ang told reporters after his swim.
“The race went pretty well, I got off to a fast start and the rest was easy for me. I've been training so hard for this event, and it finally paid off. The gold medal means so much to me and I'll never ever forget this experience.”
Singapore’s top-class swimmers have dominated the SEA Games swimming competition for years, all except one event — the men’s 200-metre breaststroke. With Ang’s victory, the city-state can now proudly say that they’ve won medals in every swimming event.
