Singapore Electricity Tariff to Rise by 5.6% in Q1’22

Electricity tariff in Singapore will rise by an average of 5.6% or 1.33 cents per kWh in the first quarter of 2022, its fourth consecutive quarter of increase.

SP Group attributed the hike to higher fuel costs in the global market. “Over the past few months, a confluence of recovering economic activity, severe weather events, and a series of gas production outages have sent global energy market prices significantly higher,” SP Group said on Dec. 30. “These factors have raised electricity prices in many markets.”

For households, the electricity tariff will increase to 25.44 cents per kWh from 24.11 cents, effective Jan. 1 to March 31, 2022, making the average monthly electricity bill for families living in HDB four-room flats rise by S$4.70.

The increase is computed before the 7% goods and services tax.
