DBS to Subsidise Five Million Hawker Meals Until 2024
DBS has launched a year-long subsidy for Singaporeans who patronise local hawker centres. Starting Feb. 10 until Jan. 19, 2024, users of DBS PayLah! accounts will receive an instant cashback of S$3 provided that they bought from SGQR-enabled hawker stalls all over the island.
The rebate is limited to one redemption per week, with only the first 100,000 PayLah! users eligible for the cashback.
The announcement amidst a spike in inflation in Singapore, which is flanked by rising rental prices. DBS says that this concerted effort is to help locals who are in a pinch due to the current economic situation.
As for businesses, DBS launched a programme in 2021 called Adopt-A-Hawker Centre Initiative that aimed to help hawker centres through better online visibility and group buys.
Singapore’s core inflation remained at 5.1% in December 2022, according to government data.
