Tracing Our Terrain: Land, Legacy and the City in Nature

Discover the complex balance between development and nature at Tracing Our Terrain: Land, Legacy and the City in Nature, happening on Aug. 23, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM at ArtScience Museum's The Sun, Basement 1. This interactive workshop, facilitated by Singapore Youth Voices for Biodiversity (SYVB), invites participants to explore Singapore’s transformation from kampongs and plantations to public housing and nature parks, reflecting on the trade-offs between urban growth and natural conservation.

Through case studies, collaborative dialogue, and creative inquiry, attendees will examine how evolving priorities over the past two centuries have shaped Singapore’s landscapes and how green and grey spaces might coexist more meaningfully. The session encourages participants to envision possibilities for sustainable urban development, aligning with Singapore’s City in Nature vision, and fosters discussion on how individuals and communities can contribute to biodiversity conservation.

Led by Isaac Ong Zi En, Programmes Head at SYVB, the workshop is designed to empower youth while welcoming participants of all ages. It provides a dynamic platform for sharing perspectives, reflecting on environmental decisions, and collaborating on strategies for a more sustainable, biodiverse, and just future.
