Swing Your Best Shot at These Golf Courses in Singapore

Golf Courses in Singapore

Golf is a sport that uses different clubs or sticks to hit a small ball into a series of holes dug in the ground. It has traditionally been seen as a game played by wealthy people who can afford expensive golf equipment that can cost thousands of dollars, not to mention the fees required to become a member of an exclusive club.

Aside from being a money and status symbol, golf is a fun sport because it is not a strenuous physical activity. You just need to find the proper posture and swing your club to strike the ball. If you’re interested in trying out golf in Singapore, here are four of the best courses you should visit.

Orchid Country Club

Nestled in the lush greenery and sparkling reservoir waters, Orchid Country Club is one of the finest golf courses in Singapore. It is built with a 27-hole course designed under the supervision of the late former President of Singapore Ong Teng Cheong. Its three nine-hole courses were named after different species of orchids – Aranda, Vanda, and Dendro. The country club is where the Singapore Open in 1999 and the Handa Singapore Classic in 2010 and 2011 took place.

Those interested in playing golf must wear the appropriate attire and shoes with soft spikes. Sleeveless tops, jeans, and running shorts are strictly not allowed.

Keppel Club

Keppel Club is just a stone’s throw away from the heart of the city and equipped with an 18-hole golf course spread out across a 6,000-metre competition course that was constructed in 1982. It is open daily from 7 AM to 10 PM and 11 AM to 10 PM every second and fourth Monday of each month.

This golf course in Singapore is rooted in history and rich heritage as it was named after Royal Navy officer Sir Henry Keppel in line with the successful clearing of the Straits Settlements of pirates. To know about its complete range ball rates, go to its official website.

Singapore Island Country Club (SICC)

Singapore Island Country Club is one of the city-state's “grandest” golf and country clubs with exclusive facilities and services designed for its members. You can test your golfing skills through its Bukit Course, Island Course, and The New Course, which range from 18 to 27 holes.

Founded in 1891, SICC celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 with a formal gala dinner and the release of a book chronicling the club's history through a "time capsule" meant to represent the heritage and multi-diversity of SICC members.

Laguna National Golf Resort Club

The 36-hole course at Laguna National Golf Resort Club has hosted golf champions and legends like Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Sir Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh, and Ian Woosnam.

It houses two golf courses, namely the Classic and the Masters. The former is dubbed as “The Beast” because of its hilly terrain that can stretch up to 7,471 yards for professionals, while the latter is known as “The Grand Old Lady,” which features parkland-style courses surrounded with Bermuda grass greens, rain trees, and lakes.
