Bangkok Hailed as ‘Top Trending Global Destination’ in 2022, Airbnb Reveals

Bangkok is the top trending global destination based on Airbnb searches in 2022, according to a press release on Nov. 30.

When compared to the first three quarters of 2022 versus the same period in 2021, the home rental platform revealed that Bangkok is the most popular destination for Airbnb guests across the world.

Trailing behind Bangkok are the cities of Sydney (Australia), Málaga (Spain), Seoul (South Korea), Melbourne (Australia), Itapema (Brazil), Angra dos Reis (Brazil), Capão da Canoa (Brazil), Auckland (New Zealand), and Brisbane (Australia).

The company wrapped up “the year with a bow” by revealing the countries that topped the charts for annual holiday travel trends, stays, and destinations in 2022.

“In 2022, we continued to see changes in the way people live, work and travel on Airbnb. It’s clear that the newfound flexibility offered by remote and hybrid work has led to a revolution in how we travel –especially when it comes to international destinations. The reopening of the largest inbound travel market in the world also unlocked pent-up demand from international travelers eager to reconnect with loved ones or visit their favorite stateside destinations once more,” the press release read.

Moreover, tourists who travelled from May 11 to Sept. 30 booked water-related Airbnb categories. The category with the highest number of reservations was pool, followed by beach, iconic city, tropical, countryside, beachfront, cabin, surf spot, lake house, and ski destination.

Airbnb also provided a sneak peek at the top trending international travel destinations in 2023, with the city of Málaga, Spain ranked first, followed by Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, and Bangkok projected in the fifth spot.
