Five City Trips for Your Post-Quarantine Travels in Asia
After what has felt like a millennium, the Hong Kong government has announced the easing of quarantine restrictions to allow residents and tourists to freely enter the city without the need to quarantine for three days in a designated hotel.
Whilst those entering Hong Kong are still required to undergo medical supervision for three days, stopping them from entering restaurants and bars, we are ever-more eager to finally have our break from this rushed city and venture out to meet our neighbours.
To make your life easier to book your next weekend getaway or short-haul trip across the continent, we are offering our know-how and insight into some of the best destinations we’ve visited in previous years for your post-COVID, post-quarantine trips.
Bangkok, Thailand
There is much to adore about the Land of Smile’s capital city, Bangkok, which is famed for its addictive intensity with rushed happenings on street level and a culture and food scene to deserve a weekend trip to. Just over three hours in a plane from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), begin your trip by discovering old Bangkok’s regal history and decadent temples, then dive into the city’s Chinese origins at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, shop in Siam, and sip on one or many beers on Khao San Street.
Singapore
The Lion City has long existed as an easy option for Hong Kongers looking for a quick city break. With its world-famous street-food scene and fine-dining options, Singapore is a food galore for the foodie travellers of the world, whilst the city’s old-age colonial neighbourhoods offer serenity among the hustle and bustle. Expect a quick two-hour and 40-minute journey to this Southeast Asia-centred city.
Hanoi, Vietnam
Within one of Asia’s oldest cities, Hanoi is rich with beautiful Chinese and French colonial architecture and Vietnamese street culture charm around every corner. Jump on a two-hour and 15-minute flight down to the country’s capital for a trip dedicated to eating and roaming in this walkable city. We highly recommend exploring the famous Hao Lo Prison and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to embrace the country's history, whilst venturing up to Quan Thanh and Hang Bo neighbourhoods for snacks.
Manila, Philippines
Busy Manila routinely covers Asia’s cheapest fares from neighbouring cities, with a short flight from Hong Kong to the capital lasting only two hours and 15 minutes for a flight down south. Don’t fear the size of Manila as the bayside city is easily accessible with jeepneys and pedicabs that can zip you around. Discover the glory of the city’s modern central business district lying right beside Old Manila’s walled city of Intramuros, Fort Santiago, and the San Agustin Church. It is a must to head to the Rizal Park too for some relaxation.
Taipei City, Taiwan
Boasting one of the quickest and cheapest flights from Hong Kong clocking in at two hours, Hong Kongers should have every reason to venture east to Taiwan’s capital. If you have not already booked a short trip to Taipei for eating, shopping, and exploring, now is the time to venture into the bustling streets of Taipei, brimming with friendly faces and superb street food. Head to Rao He Night Market for the best of Taiwan’s street food, Dong Qu for your shopping needs, Xi Men for that classic Times Square vibe, and of course, Xin Yi to club and eat expensive meals.
