Wisma Putra Holds Donation Campaign for Türkiye, Syria Earthquake Victims

In a bid to help earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Malaysia (Wisma Putra) launched a “humanitarian donation campaign” using its Foreign Affairs’ Disaster Fund (TBKLN), according to a media release issued on Feb. 10.

The campaign began on Feb. 10 and will continue until Feb. 23. As stated in the release, Wisma Putra’s TBKLN was established in 2006 with the goal to aid people affected by natural disasters around the world. The funds were collected from the public in Malaysia; however, donations from corporations, business groups, and non-governmental organisations are also encouraged.

“Contributions made are eligible to be claimed as income tax deductions under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act (ACP) 1967,” the release read.

Donations can be made through Affin Islamic Bank Berhad, Putrajaya with account number 1054 9000 0599.

Donors must fill out an online form via Google Docs with certain information including their name, email address, phone number, address, amount of contribution, and a copy of the transaction slip. For further queries, you may contact the fund secretariat by sending an email to [email protected].

As of Feb. 12 (11:28 AM EST), CNN reported that the death toll has climbed to more than 33,000 since the catastrophic 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on Feb. 6.
