We Taste-Tested Different French Fries from Fast Food Restos! The Winner Is…

Fried potatoes, popularly called French fries, is one of Filipinos’ top fast-food indulgences, along with burgers and fried chicken. Its saltiness and crunchy texture make it addictive for many of us. Yum!

Food is always a great idea when you hang out with your colleagues, right? That’s why The Beat Asia team decided to test different French fries from big fast-food restaurants around Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.

A friendly reminder that each order of fries may contain 196 calories or more, so make sure to prepare a physical activity like walking or cardio afterwards to burn the calories!

We conducted the taste-testing challenge among the top five much-debated French fries from Jollibee, McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, and Wendy’s.

To ensure the fries were not soggy, we immediately proceeded to the taste-testing as soon as these were delivered. We used scorecards based on the fries’ texture, packaging, taste, and appearance.

After an intense yet fun round of taste testing, here are the results:

Texture

For the texture, we determined the balance of the fries’ crispness on the outside and softness on the inside. For this category, French fries from Wendy’s won with 40 points.

Packaging

We weighed the packaging factor according to paper, cardboard, or plastic that could retain the fries’ heat level. Plus points for eco-friendliness, too! KFC French fries placed in a cardboard box led the ranking with 35 points, featuring the brand’s signature red and white design.

Taste

At this point, each brand is evaluated based on its greasiness and saltiness. For the taste test, Wendy’s gained the highest score with 41 points.

Appearance

Do you prefer thin strips of fries or large cuts? This is how our team rated each fry during the appearance ranking portion, wherein Wendy’s grabbed the top spot (again!) with 40 points. I guess we like our fries thicc and with the occasional potato skin!

Winner

This may come as a surprise to many of us, but Wendy’s French fries got the highest score on the ranking list.

With a total of 154 points, its consistent saltiness and balanced texture pushed it to the top spot. It was followed by KFC with 140 points, Jollibee and Burger King with both 117 points, and McDonald’s with 111 points. See the complete scoring details below:
