A Look at Five Iconic Hairstyles by SB19’s Pablo

Fashion and music have always been interconnected. On the superficial level, one might dismiss this as all part of branding. But history tells us that an artist’s fashion statement is almost always connected to the music they produce, creating an identity that transcends a sold-out record. From Elvis Presley’s button-down shirts and wide-leg trousers, the Beatles’ matching velvet suits, to BTS’ fresh-from-the-runway, gender-neutral outfits, fashion worn by the most notable artists in history has always been associated with the performance they put onstage.

In the Philippines, we have Pinoy pop group SB19 to thank for giving us world-class music and fashion styles that debunk the typical Pinoy macho image. One of their members, Pablo, recently launched his debut single called “La Luna,” a song he describes as “com[ing] to terms with ourselves” and accepting our imperfections. The song also reflects SB19’s transition from being an unknown five-piece group in an unchartered territory to a chart-topping sensation that beat BTS on the Billboard charts.

Like his music, Pablo’s style choices have also evolved through the years. In this article, we look back at his iconic hairstyles that set the trend for all P-pop enthusiasts like us.

Black and White Split Dye

One of Pablo’s signature hairstyles is his black and white split dye. If you’ve been following Pablo for a long time, then you’d know his fascination for contrasts, one of the themes that dominates “La Luna” in which he talks about one’s dark and light phases.

This split dyed hair is courtesy of Moridu Art, a hair salon owned by TV show host Ryan Bang that has been the go-to of celebrities for Korean dos.

Curtain Cut

Our “Pinuno” (leader) also used to sport the so-called curtain haircut to go with his iconic black and white dye. Popularized in the ‘90s by American heartthrobs Leonardo Di Caprio and Brad Pitt, this style is where the locks on top are left longer and parted in the middle. We love how Pablo injected his personal style into this classic cut by leaving his medium-length, wavy do.

Comb Over

Another favorite is this comb-over look we often spot during his big shoots and performances. It yields a neat and sleek look that draws attention to Pablo’s face.

Tie Up

We know how hard it is to manage long hair, so we don’t blame Pablo for resorting to the oldie but goodie trick: a hair tie. In this photoshoot, the SB19 singer and songwriter pulled his hair back while leaving a portion of his front hair parted for that edgy look. Frankly, we admire guys who can pull off this hairstyle!

Comb Over With Line

This side-swept look adds a twist to the traditional comb-over style, but instead of highlighting the side partition by having a shaved line, Pablo instead opted to keep his hair flat and tucked behind his ear. We also love the highlights here as they enhance the volume of his hair. Oh, and did you notice the braided part, too?
