Truth be told, many students, especially in the Philippines, struggled as education systems shifted to online learning as an emergency response to the pandemic.

According to a study conducted by the Institute of Statistics - University of the Philippines Los Baños, published on the Philippine Journal Science website, Filipino students are computer and internet-ready, but not in terms of e-learning due to various factors. This includes home responsibilities, online instructional materials comprehension, and seeking assistance when faced with learning difficulties, among others.

To help students in need cope with e-learning, graphic design platform Canva launched Canva Eskwela, designed to create connections among campuses through valuable tips and curated templates.

Canva Eskwela will serve as a “virtual teacher lounge” where students can support each other, share stories and fun life hacks, and spread good vibes. Fret not, you don’t need to finish any homework here!

Here are the best features and tidbits of Canva Eskwela that will surely make your virtual class effective and impressive.

Personalized Video Background

For starters, a personalized video background is one of the best ways to show everyone your creative side, which can help spark conversations and real connections. You can use Canva’s awesome visuals to make a memorable introduction during your first day on virtual back to school.

Ice Breaker Templates

To remove first-day jitters, teachers may try Canva Eskwela’s ice breaker templates featuring eye-catching designs. Some of its sample ice breaker activities are Mix and Meet, Bingo Bravo, Roll and Tell, Would You Rather, Self-Portrait, and more.

Other templates helpful to maintain creativity in the class are artistic desktop organizers, presentations, course syllabi, lesson plans, and class schedule notes/timetable.

Virtual Classrooms

You can maximize online education with Canva by creating virtual classrooms. Go to your account settings, under Billing & Teams select “Create a new class.” Customize your virtual classroom by adding fun names such as “Math-alino”, “bookworms,” “eggs-tra curricular activity,”, etc.

What’s more is that you can create groups within these classrooms. Simply click your class name, select “Group” at the middle right corner, and find the plus sign. Voila! You can now create a group name and add class members that you like.

In-editor Recording

For school works that require video content, check out this feature of Canva Eskwela that lets you record yourself. Go to “uploads,” select record yourself, and set up your camera and microphone by choosing Facetime-HD Camera. Once you are all set, you can start recording, save, and edit or record a new one if you spot some errors.
