Forget About Superstitions as Apple is Reportedly Naming its Upcoming Smartphone ‘iPhone 13’

The number 13 may be considered unlucky in several cultures, but it seems tech giant Apple does not care much about superstitions.

The company is reportedly planning to stick with its traditional naming convention when it launches the next iteration of the iPhone later this year. According to a report by Economic Daily, Apple will name its new phones “iPhone 13,” contrary to rumors that the tech giant was working on an “iPhone 12S” series.

The number 13 is often given a negative connotation, with some cultures avoiding getting married or traveling during that date.

A recent survey of more than 3,000 Apple users found that 74% of them would prefer Apple to name its device anything but iPhone 13, with 38% saying that the upcoming phone should be named iPhone (2021) instead. This is similar to how Apple names its new Macbook and iPad models.

iPhone 13 series

Apple is expected to unveil Mini, Pro, and Pro Max versions of the iPhone 13 just like its iPhone 12 series, the report said.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max will reportedly have a 6.7-inch screen, while the iPhone 13 Pro will have 6.1 inches. Versions in 5.4 inches and 6.1 inches will also be available, according to the report.

As part of its tradition, Apple is expected to roll out the iPhone 13 in September, although the tech giant is yet to announce an exact date. Due to the pandemic, Apple deviated from its practice last year and launched the iPhone 12 in October.

What to expect from iPhone 13

Rumors abound regarding the upcoming version of the iPhone. The iOS 15, which Apple previewed at its developers’ conference last month, will be part of the iPhone 13, according to Bloomberg News.

In the capacity department, the Pro and Pro Max versions are said to have upgraded storage of 1TB. The battery capacity will also increased across all versions of the upcoming phone.

Apple insider called L0vetodream, who has consistently provided accurate leaks about new Apple devices, said the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s battery will pack 4,352 mAh, which is about 18% larger than the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s battery and making it the largest power capacity ever of an iPhone. And to make space for the larger battery, the new phones are expected to be slightly thicker.

Some reports say that Apple will also adopt larger rear cameras and switch the modules to a diagonal arrangement from horizontal to make space. On top of these, the tech giant is said to tweak its optical image stabilization feature, as well as introduce a portrait mode video.

It remains to be seen whether Apple will stick with its naming convention or not, but one thing’s for sure: once it rolls out its new model, we’ll all be there.
