When most of us were cooped up inside our homes during the worst phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, TikTok ended up becoming a popular pastime.

With more than 3.5 billion downloads across the globe, this short-form video sharing app is undeniably an online trend that paved the way for the world of e-commerce. Apart from its live video streaming for sellers, it features shopping options — aka the yellow basket — and affiliate commission plans.

On Dec. 15, 2022, TikTok released its What’s Next Trend Report 2023 that centers on ever-evolving “social and cultural sentiments” and how to transform these into a new market approach for TikTok users in 2023. These predictions are based on findings from thorough research conducted all over the world as well as case studies.

Here are the trends forecasted by TikTok that will shape and define 2023.

Motivational and Entertaining

People love watching motivational and entertaining videos on TikTok, making them a great fit for brands or businesses because these are relatable to people. These types of content are classified as “actionable entertainment,” which include essential elements that are captivating and trustworthy.

Gone are the days of the “clickbait era” — misleading thumbnails and catchphrases like “wait till the end.” Hence, Tiktok would likely focus more on relevance and awareness this year.

Some of the content you can create can be about career advice, skincare tips, and daily routines through a storytelling approach. You might also want to try using these trending hashtags: #Storytime, #POV, #ExpectationVsReality, #FactOrCap, #MustHaves, and #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt.

Life Hacks, Memes and Fun Audio Trends

This 2023, TikTok believes that more people will pursue happiness in all its forms. As a brand or marketer, it is important to leverage what makes users feel happy to watch on TikTok by creating a “space for joy.” This kind of TikTok trend may include content about wellness and budget tips for different kinds of lifestyles.

For instance, you may think about content on “inspiration for small luxuries, such as hacks for drawing the perfect bath or tips on how to make a fancy cup of coffee at home” because “users like feeling understood," TikTok creator and marketing expert Andrea Casanova said in the report.

Some of the popular hashtags you may try are: #InnerChild, #HotGirlWalk, #CornKid, #TeenageDirtbag, #TreatYourself, and #UnwindWithMe.

Based on the report, TikTok highlights the concept of “hyper-personal spaces,” which create an avenue for people to explore their passions and interests while also learning from and being inspired by others.

This falls under the “community-built ideals” category, which involves content about relationships such as dating advice and parenting tips as well as shopping, eating, and testing new products.

"TikTok's culture has impacted the type of conversations we're comfortable having online. This vulnerability, openness, and sense of community helps viewers feel less alone in their day-to-day [struggles]," Casanova said.

You may try these popular hashtags: #EduTok, #TikTokMadeMeTryIt, #GrowthMindset, #Advice, #ShopWithMe, and #ComeWithMe.
