Thailand to Host 11th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting From Aug. 14

Thailand is all geared up to host the 11th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, which will happen concurrently with the 60th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting in Bangkok on Aug. 14-20.

According to a press release by the Tourism Authority of Thailand on Aug. 5, over 300 ministers and officials are expected to attend the two meetings.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has said that this is the country's first time to hold the ministerial meeting in 21 APEC member economics.

"The meetings will be held with a 'low-carbon' approach under the concept of 'Regenerative Tourism' that promotes sustainable recovery post-pandemic," he was quoted as saying.

Regenerative tourism is a holistic approach to tourism development and promotion that takes into account tourism's effects on all facets of the environment, culture, and local life.

The concept is a part of the Royal Thai Government's Bio-Circular-Green or BCG Economy Model. This model, which the country will be utilising to recover the tourism industry since the pandemic began, champions the country's rich culture and biological diversity.

It is also in line with Thailand's theme of APEC 2022 as host: "Open. Connect. Balance."

Apart from the two meetings, attendees can expect academic seminars, a visit to Bangkok's Talat Noi neighbourhood, and Nakhon Pathom's Sampran Model.

"Thailand is ready to be a good host and showcase our Regenerative Tourism initiatives to the ministers and officials from the APEC member economies during the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting and related meetings," he added.
