BTS Skytrain Fares to Increase on Jan. 1 Due to Global Inflation

The Bangkok Mass Transit Public Company Limited (BTSC) has announced on their website that BTS Skytrain fares on the Sukhumvit Line (from Mo Chit Station to On Nut Station) and Silom Line (from National Stadium Station to Saphan Taksin Station), as well as the Silom extension (Krung Thon Buri Station and Wongwian Yai Station) will increase, effective Jan. 1, 2023.

The minimum fare will increase by THB1 from THB16 to THB17, while the maximum fare will go up by THB3 from THB44 to THB47 for those travelling eight stations or more. The one-day pass will also increase by THB10 from THB140 to THB150.

Senior citizen Rabbit Card holders don’t have to worry, though, as they’ll still receive their discount based on the normal fare.

BTSC CEO Surapong Laoha-Unya said the company has been operating the BTS Skytrain since 1999 and for the last 23 years, they’ve only adjusted fare prices thrice. The last price increase was five years ago in 2017, when fares were adjusted by THB1 (minimum) and THB2 (maximum).

Among the reasons for the increase are the impact of global inflation, which resulted in the rising costs of goods (especially energy), maintenance, and other expenses.
