Thai Gov't to Accelerate Care for Elderly Through Gold Card

The Thai government has bolstered its efforts to expedite the quality of life care services for its elderly population.

In a press release by the Royal Thai Government on Oct. 3, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office Ratchada Thanadirek said the government has compelled the proper authorities to accelerate services for elderly care.

This includes the National Health Treatment Scheme or Gold Card under the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP), which offers medical care and essential public health services coverage.

There were about 9.6 million Thai seniors aged 60 and above in 2021 alone, as per the gold patent's data, with 64.2 million in-patient and out-patient visits. There are 12.11 million seniors in Thailand or 18% out of its total population of 66 million in 2022.

The release also reported that the common diseases treated among the elderly were high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, diabetes, dementia, coronary artery disease, cancer, eye diseases, and more.

The government will be expanding the benefits of health services for the elderly under the Gold Card for the Fiscal Year 2023. For the complete details of these services, go here.
