Violators Who Dump Waste in Waterways Will Pay Up to THB10,000 Fine, BMA Says

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is urging locals not to throw any trash in the waterways, or they will have to pay hefty fines. This is in addition to the warning they posted on Facebook against those who dump trash into waterways and other unsanctioned spots.

According to Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, the BMA reportedly collects 9,000 tonnes of trash from canals per day, including mattresses and other bulky items. Most of them are from the Phra Khanong pumping station where they collect five to six tonnes of trash a day, as reported by the Bangkok Post.

Governor Chadchart said City Hall will be increasing their inspections since trash sometimes damages the water pumps when they get stuck. He also asked the community to report to the authorities so people would stop dumping waste into canals.

Violators who get caught will have to pay between THB2,000 and THB10,000.
