TAT, Huawei Ink MOU to Promote Smart Tourism in Thailand

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in a bid to push for smart tourism in Thailand using advanced technologies, AI, 5G, the Cloud, and more.

The MOU, titled "Digital Transformation and Innovation Development for Smart Tourism," will run for one year from the date of signing, according to a press release by TAT on Aug. 8.

The signing was presided over by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports Napintorn Srisunpang, with the MOU signed by TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. CEO Abel Deng. Huawei Asia Pacific Vice President Jun Zhang and executives from the abovementioned groups were also present during the signing ceremony.

According to Srisunpang, Thailand's National Strategy (2018-2037) sees tourism take on an important role for the country's sustainable development.

"I am pleased that Huawei will take this opportunity to help drive Thai tourism through 5G technology support by applying new applications, multimedia, and services that emerge from the future of high-speed networks to promote tourism marketing,” Srisunpang was quoted as saying.

The release added that TAT and Huawei's preparations to implement the "Amazing THAILAND is just a phone call away" initiative are underway.

This includes a video ring back tone or a call-waiting video that will promote the country's culture and heritage through Thai 5G users with Huawei's 5G, among others.

"Looking into the future, Huawei is committed to leveraging advanced technologies to heighten TAT’s position as the strategic leader driving Thailand towards being a world-class tourism destination," said Deng in the release.
