LCSD Launches ‘Blossom Around Town’ Event With Landscaping Projects

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has launched Blossom Around Town (BAT) in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The event will run from June to October featuring landscaping projects, which will be rolled out in three phases, that will be open to the public at selected parks and locations across Hong Kong.

A 420 square-metre flower field consisting of around 16,000 potted plants called “Home Enlivened by Flowers” is currently located along the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section). In the centre, the number 25 and a miniature of the signature Golden Bauhinia can be found.

“We use flowers with different colours that blossom in summer, symbolising the vibrancy and diversity of Hong Kong,” Leisure Manager (Landscape) Vicky Wong said.

“The flowers we used also have different positive meanings, which mean Hong Kong will have a better future,” she added.

Next to the flower field is a wall called “What a Glamorous Metropolis.” It features installations patterned on the Peak Tram and the Ferris Wheel against a cityscape with emerald hills and skyscrapers in the background.

The BAT will include the beautification of 21 roadside greening areas with flowering plants. In mid-September, the LCSD plans to set up Eastern and Western-style thematic garden plots at designated parks.
