LSCD Promotes Hong Kong Hiking Trails with ‘Hiking Scheme’ Videos

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) plans to introduce hiking routes of various levels of difficulty through a series of videos under the “Hiking Scheme”, according to a Nov. 18 press release.

As one of the thematic activities under the Department of Health’s (DH) ‘Healthy Exercise for All Campaign’, the government has dedicated a website for those curious to learn more. Related information on those trials can be found in the remade videos, which will cover popular routes in Hong Kong, such as the ‘Ma On Shan – Ngong Ping – Tai Shui Hang’ trail, the ‘To Tei Wan – Big Wave Bay’ trail, and many others.

The videos will include transportation guides, hiking route cross sections, route lengths, estimated hiking times, and levels of difficulty, as well as historic backgrounds, attractions, and hiking points which can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the routes to enhance the hikers’ enjoyment and curiosity about Hong Kong’s unique mountainous terrain.

In promoting the hikes, the LSCD also reminds members of the public to prioritise their safety up in the mountains. Hikers should always be aware of which routes are best suited to their abilities, and be wary of choosing harder hiking routes that may be too unfamiliar or challenging.

This includes checking the weather conditions, as well as their own fitness and health conditions, to get ahead of unexpected accidents. Hiking with friends and bringing enough gear is also recommended.
