Coffeelin Opens in Fortress Hill: A Taste of Milanese Coffee Culture

Coffeelin Opens as a Haven of Authentic Milanese Coffee Culture in Fortress Hill Header

Coffeelin, known for its true Italian-style coffee, has captured the hearts of coffee aficionados in Hong Kong since opening its first cafe in Sai Ying Pun back in 2018. Now, with the launch of its fourth venue on historic Oil Street in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Fortress Hill, Coffeelin brings the most complete taste of Milanese coffee house culture to the city.

Founder Lucas Sam, who fell in love with Italy's style and design capital during his extended visits, envisioned a refreshing alternative to the many Japanese and Australian-style cafes in Hong Kong. Inspired by the laid-back yet buzzing cafes found all over Milan, Coffeelin Fortress Hill is a haven for both coffee enthusiasts and lovers of homely Italian cuisine.

At Coffeelin Fortress Hill, espresso takes centre stage, although the professional baristas are more than happy to prepare cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiatos as well. All the coffees are made using La Storica 1991, the secret signature blend from Torrefazione Il Griso on the outskirts of Milan.

This blend, voted the best coffee bar in Italy in 2016, is carefully selected by Griso's co-founder and master roaster, Antonio Biscotti. The commitment to quality is evident, with multiple medals from the International Institute of Coffee Tasters.

With a fully equipped kitchen, the new Coffeelin venue offers an accessible and expanded food menu from breakfast to dinner. Chef Umberto D'Avino, who hails from just outside of Rome, showcases dishes he learned to cook from his grandmother, with occasional creative twists inspired by Hong Kong's abundant markets.

The breakfast menu features irresistible offerings like ham and cheese toast with prosciutto crudo and fontina cheese, or a classic rosetta roll stuffed with mortadella and truffle stracciatella. The all-day menu showcases delights such as sliced Roast Octopus Tentacles, Warm Potato Foam & Smoked Paprika, Cacciatora style Spring Chicken, Roast Potatoes & Watercress Salad, and homemade tagliolini pasta with butter and Mediterranean anchovies elevated by hints of kaffir lime.

Save room for the delectable desserts, including a luscious tiramisu infused with Griso coffee, an indulgent Neapolitan rum baba, or maritozzi, the ultimate cream bun. During aperitivo hour, an important Italian ritual, guests can enjoy classic aperol spritz or choose from the inventive cocktails on the menu. A selection of snacks, such as zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and mozzarella croquettes, perfectly complements the drinks.
