Bengal Brothers: The Kati Rolls Bringing Kolkata to Wanchai

Bengal Brothers The First Flaky Kathi Rolls Hitting HK 3

Bengal Brothers is the first quick pit-stop diner in Hong Kong to ingratiate oneself with the flaky and buttery West Bengal creation of the kati roll – a streetside snack of skewer-roasted kebab meats hugged in paratha bread – that enjoys supreme fame across the subcontinent.

Opening in July 2021, the tram-side grab-and-go venue in Wanchai ushered customers during the hot summer with an introduction of the 90-year-old kati roll, originally hailing from street vendors in Kolkata.

The street diner is a brotherly partnership between Delhi natives and former-Black Sheep Vidur Yadav and Tanvir Bhasin, who sought to import the kebab-comfort food as a challenge to Hong Kong tastebuds.

Venue

The brothers creating the classic Bengal treat curated their Wan Chai space as a tribute to nostalgic tram-side Kolkata dining with friends, manning a wrapped kati roll in one hand, mango lassi in another, resting in the sun over beer cratons.

Light blues and pinks paint the walls and storefront of Bengal Brothers – a nostalgic reminder of the playful colours of street vendors across India, whilst the gold and wooden framing of the venue recreate India’s train ticketing booth often positioned besides street vendors selling rolls.

Bengal Brothers caters to the lunch-time crowds salivating for a quick bite and a steadfast return to the office or a lounge in the sun holding a Bira 91 craft beer and a kati roll.

Food and drink

Bengal Brothers’ menu is a tightknit collection of chicken, beef, paneer, chickpea, and veggie kati rolls, “first-class” rice bowls, spicy and tangy street snacks, and homemade coolers, including their addictive Fresh Mago Lassi (HK$55).

I began my feast at Bengal Brothers with the Sweet Potato Chaat (HK$50), a Vidur-approved recommendation, a colourful mix of roast sweet potato chunks, dressed in mint chutney, homemade yoghurt, crunchy noodles, and rich pomegranates.

The chaat stands for a colourful exploration of crunch versus juicy soft bites and sweet versus sour, tangy flavours. The earthy potato bites work well in tandem with the noodles to offer an opposing crunchy texture, the mild spice of the chutney is matched with the sweetness and cream of the yoghurt, whilst the pomegranates colour the dish and burst with flavour in your mouth.

Next up, I tucked into the golden Gunpowder Fries (HK$40), a handful-serving of golden fries dusted with Bengal Brothers’ house-made spice mix, including tamarind, chilli, paprika, and sugar for a kick!

Like every item on the menu, the fries are no different, offering a playful opposing flavour combo – tingling spice on the first bite and contact with the tongue, followed by a pleasant tinge of sweetness. They make a perfect shared side dish with a mate on a lunch-date. Be aware, they are addictive.

A trip to Bengal Brothers would not be complete – in the considered words of Vidur – without tasting the Kerala Fried Chicken (HK$60), a side of unbelievably juicy chicken strips battered in rice flour and seasoned with curry leaf, ginger, and green chilli.

Chicken is sometimes hard to cook and retain a final product that is juicy and penetrated by the seasoned coating, but this BB chicken is...and it’s unreal. Every bite I took burst with the salty, spicy, coconutty, and oniony seasonings that seeped into the white meat. The mustard is introduced on this side dish for a mellow tang.

Vidur and Tan keep it simple with their recommendations and I duly followed with their hometown favourite and introductory kati for first timers, the BB Classic Roll (HK$98), a flaky paratha wrap with beaten egg encircling a mix of mint and cashew chutney, coconut pickled onions, and pulled chicken tikka.

With the Classic Roll, you are gaining an introduction into the spice palate Bengal Brothers is infamous for. This kati is simple with its recipe construction, but elaborates further with the rich turmeric, cardamon, mint, garam masala, garlic, onion, and salt that bring a nice earthy flavouring to the butter of the roll.

On my last draw at Bengal Brothers, I picked the Tamil Pepper Beef (HK$108) “first-class” rice bowl to explore the packed basin of coconut cucumber and peanut salad, pickled beetroot, turmeric rice, and the signature beef shank marinated and cooked in a garam masala, peppercorn, and coconut sauce.

The three-piece spiced, sautéed, and marinated beef guarantees to melt in your mouth, with oozing of salty and peppery juices that excite the tastebuds. The sauce blends the in-house daily-made yoghurt, with hints of cumin, fennel, and cinnamon, for an herby gastro-adventure along the south of India. I suggest you mix all parts of the bowl around to soak up the snappy cucumber bites, rice, and peppered beef for a sweet and salty combo.

Verdict

Bengal Brothers is a must-go for an experience savouring an authentic snack celebrated by millions, but rare and fresh in Hong Kong. Rich creamy flavours, succulent vegetables, and spicy meats are a guarantee, with a neighbourhood feel also created in-house.

The pair’s culinary and operations experience at Rajasthan Rifles, New Punjab Club, and Potato Head really shine through in every bite.

Find an hour in your day on a lunch break to venture to Bengal Brothers with a friend, sharing two street snacks with a kati roll in hand or a rice bowl beneath. We highly suggest you order the BB Classic Roll (HK$98), Achaari Paneer Roll (HK$88), or Tamil Pepper Beef bowl (HK$108) for mains, and Sweet Potato chaat (HK$55) and Kerala Fried Chicken (HK$60).

There are lunches, and then there are lunches worth surrendering an entire afternoon to. This upcoming festive season, Jean-Pierre invites diners to embrace the latter with the Trois Martini Lunch, the restaurant's first-ever daytime service since opening in 2025.

Available every Thursday and Friday for HK$588 per guest from Oct. 15 to Dec. 26, 2026, the lunch showcases the kind of generous, deeply comforting French cooking that has made the SoHo bistro a favorite among those in search of classic Parisian charm.

Starters range from Escargots de Bourgogne and Steak Tartare to Soupe à l'Oignon and Salade de Chèvre Chaud, followed by a choice of bistro mainstays including Boeuf Bourguignon, Saumon au Beurre Blanc, Gnocchi Parisienne, and Steak au Poivre.

For tables of two or more, the centerpiece is the Poulet de Simone, Jean-Pierre's signature roast chicken filled with mushrooms, tarragon, and spinach, carved tableside and accompanied by Pierre Koffmann fries, roasted mushrooms, and crisp salad. To finish, guests can choose between a silky Mousse au Chocolat and a classic Profiteroles for dessert.

Of course, no Trois Martini Lunch would be complete without the martinis. For an additional HK$288 per guest, diners can enjoy three expertly made serves that encourage the meal to unfold at its own pace.

Reservations are available online via Sevenrooms, while more details can be found on Instagram at @jeanpierrehongkong and their website.

K11 MUSEA and Two Moons Serve Up a Gin-Fueled Dining Crawl

Taste of GI Ndulgence 1Photo by K11 Musea/Website

K11 MUSEA and K11 Art Mall have teamed up with Two Moons Distillery for "Taste of GIN-dulgence," a limited-time series of 12 food-and-gin pairings running from now through Nov. 30, 2026.

The program brings together 12 restaurants across the two K11 destinations, each serving a signature dish with a cocktail built around Two Moons gin. Gin is not treated as an afterthought or a side character; rather, each place brings a full flavor experience: citrus, tea, ginger, and floral botanical notes are used to sharpen, soften, or contrast with what is on the plate.

At UNAGI YONDAIME KIKUGAWA, for example, the Ippon Hitsumabushi Set is paired with "Moonlit," made with Ginger Gin, mirin, yuzu, honey, and soda. The bright drink is designed to cut through the rich, broiled eel. Yung's Bistro takes a similarly refreshing approach with "The Salisbury Jade," combining Calamansi Gin, Seedlip Garden 108, cucumber, sparkling oolong, lime, and watercress honey alongside deep-fried shrimp balls.

Other pairings lean richer or more playful. Glasshouse Greenery serves BBQ Peking Duck Pizza with "Dandy Butcher," a spirit-forward mix of Signature Dry Gin, Yuk Bing Siu, dry vermouth, red date, and chocolate bitters. At Hearth Yakiniku by ATUM, A5 Japanese Miyazaki Wagyu Chuck Rib comes with a Calamansi Gin cocktail featuring apple cider, black tea, and lemon juice to balance the indulgent Wagyu.

The lineup also includes Japanese, Cantonese, and contemporary dishes at restaurants such as KAIYŌ, Sushi Masa, Dab-Pa, Golden Blossoms, Greyhound Cafe Galleria, VELO, HOW To Live Well, and Shiawase Yakitori.

Beyond the restaurant pairings, K11 MUSEA is hosting two "Moonlit Sips" guest bartender takeovers.

KT Lam, Bar Director at Rosewood Bangkok, takes over Yung's Bistro on Oct. 9, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Lam oversees Lennon's, which is ranked No. 7 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026.

On Nov. 13, bartender Antonio Lai, Co-Founder of Quinary, Draft Land, and The Opposites, will helm UNAGI YONDAIME KIKUGAWA from 7 to 10 PM, pairing his cocktails with the restaurant's unagi.

There is also a perk for KLUB 11 members. From Oct. 12 to Nov. 30, 2026, members can access dining privileges at more than 30 selected restaurants across K11 MUSEA and K11 Art Mall, with up to HK$1,200 in dining discounts.

For updates, follow K11 MUSEA and Two Moons Distillery on Instagram. To know more about "Taste of GIN-dulgence," visit K11 MUSEA's official website.

Carmela is bringing the Côte d’Azur to the dinner table this October with Chez Carmela: A Night on the Riviera, the latest edition of the restaurant's monthly Dinner Series.

Taking place on Oct. 6, 2026, the French Riviera-inspired evening features a multi-course set menu priced at HK$688 per person, with special wine pours also available. The lineup leans into the coastal flavors of Southern France.

Dinner starts with a spread of hors d'oeuvres designed for sharing, including Oregano Sourdough Fougasse with Ratatouille, Fried Zucchini Flowers with red pepper and goat cheese, Artichokes à la Barigoule, and Pissaladière.

From there, guests can get a bowl of Bouillabaisse with Rouille Toast, followed by Spaghetti tossed with prawns, bottarga, garlic, and olive oil.

The main event is served family-style, with diners choosing one centerpiece for the table: either Whole Seabream with fennel and tomato or Roasted Lamb Rump with olive tapenade and eggplant. Herbed potatoes with aioli come alongside.

Dessert keeps things bright with a Lemon Meringue Tart scented with rosemary.

Wine plays its own supporting role in the evening. Bottles from Maison Mirabeau have been hand-selected by Simone to accompany the menu.

This limited-time dinner fits neatly into Carmela's broader approach to Southern Mediterranean cooking. From the team behind FRANCIS, the restaurant centers its menu on generous, flavor-forward food rooted in tradition but presented with a more contemporary touch.

Rosewood Hong Kong Teases New Bar Concept from the Team Behind Bar Leone

Rosewood Hong Kong Teases New Bar Concept from the Team Behind Bar Leone 1Photo by Rosewood Hong Kong | Companion Communications

Looking for your next go-to bar? Hong Kong’s cocktail scene is about to get a major shake-up, as Rosewood Hong Kong has recently revealed its plan to launch a new bar concept later this year. What makes this announcement exciting is that the upcoming bar will be developed exclusively for the hotel with the help of Lorenzo Antinori and Justin Shun Wah, the names behind Bar Leone, which was named The World’s 50 Best Bar in 2025 and maintains the Best Bar in Hong Kong 2026 title for the 3rd year in a row.

The project is slated to open in November 2026, bringing together two heavyweight names in luxury hospitality and cocktails. On one side is Rosewood Hong Kong, which topped The World’s 50 Best Hotels rankings in both 2025 and 2026. On the other is Bar Leone, the neighborhood bar that has quickly become one of the industry's biggest success stories.

For now, details about the venue remain under wraps. Rosewood has only described the concept as "an exciting new chapter for cocktail culture in Hong Kong," leaving cocktail enthusiasts to speculate about what the duo and the hotel has in store.

The hotel has already kicked off a teaser campaign on Instagram for those who want a glimpse of the upcoming project ahead of its official unveiling.

More information is expected to arrive in late October according to the post, so keep an eye on Rosewood Hong Kong's Instagram for sneak peeks and upcoming announcements.
