Hong Kong Restaurants That Serve Alternative Meat Header

Vegetarians and vegans are not the only ones who can enjoy alternative meat or plant-based meat. For individuals who want to start lessening their meat consumption for environmental, health, or ethical reasons, plant-based meats are a great way to start with. Plant-based meat is recommended if you want to slowly taper off your meat consumption instead of completely going cold turkey, as its texture and taste usually mimic that of real meat, from sausages and chicken to ground meat, burgers, nuggets, and even luncheon meat, among others.

In Hong Kong, you'll be glad to know that there are numerous establishments that serve alternative meats in its menus to cater to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Here are some of our favorite restaurants that serve alternative meats!

Qi - House of Sichuan

Expect only authentic Sichuan dishes from Qi - House of Sichuan, a one Michelin-starred restaurant along Johnston Road, Wan Chai. Qi has six dishes on its menu that use plant-based meat from Impossible Foods, such as its Tofu Roll, Crispy Rice, Eggplant in Fish Fragrant Sauce, Sauteed String Beans, Mapo Tofu, and Dan Dan Noodles. All of Qi's dishes, expertly created by its team of chefs, reflect the "seven flavors of Sichuan": spicy, aromatic, bitter, sweet, sour, peppery, and salty.

To enjoy its offerings, you can head to Qi - House of Sichuan from Monday to Sunday, from 12 noon to 3 PM and 6 PM to 10 PM, or make reservations at [email protected]

Location: Shop 12, 2/F, J Senses, 60 Johnston Road Wan Chai

Verde Mar

Do you love Mexican food? We recommend Verde Mar along Water Street in Sai Ying Pun for its authentic dishes crafted by its native Mexican chef Eligio Escobedo. Verde Mar offers various menus for kids, vegans, weekday lunches, holiday brunches, weekends, and hotpot, among others. For dishes incorporating alternative meat, go for Verde Mar's All Day Vegan Menu and enjoy its Omnipork-, mixed veggie-, and mushroom-based offerings. We recommend trying out Verde Mar's Omnipork Super Nachos (HK$159), Omnipork Wet Burrito (HK$189), and its Avocado Apple Pancake (HK$98).

You'll love this café’s comfort food selections, which include alternative meat-based dishes like the Impossible Meatballs, Impossible Pizza, and their Croissandwich with Impossible meat! You'll also love Urban Bakery's extensive hot beverages menu, which offers different types of coffee and tea like Americano, flat white, espresso, caramel latte, kimono green tea, hot matcha, and many more.

Beef & Liberty

Want to enjoy a juicy burger minus the suffering involved in animal agriculture? Head Beef & Liberty's way, whose Leaves & Liberty menu offers three different kinds of plant-based burgers. For something lighter, you can go for the Falafel burger (HK$99), which is made of chickpeas, or try out its famous 'Shrumami burger (made of house-made quinoa patty; HK$108) and KARANA Jack Stack (house-made quinoa patty with KARANA whole-plant pulled pork; HK$128) for something rich and indulgent, but still sinless!
