October 2021 Box

The October 2021 edition (their 71st volume) celebrates the spooky and freaky time of Halloween. The “Snack-Tastic Halloween” box features some of Japan’s favorite trick-or-treat goodies: the Calpis Soda Grape is guaranteed to savour your sweet tooth; KitKat’s Apple Cinnamon is a flavour of the chocolate snack you’ve never ever eaten before; and the Halloween Pizza Snacks are perfect for a scary movie binge on Devil’s Night on Oct. 30.

One can read up on Japan’s scary supernatural spirits and folklore of Halloween in the accompanying booklet, discovering the history of the tengu figure or the paranormal rokurokubi.

Treats from Previous Boxes

Each month’s box features a different and fun theme for subscribers with an aim to inspire customers and fans of Japanese culture to try new flavours of snacks exclusive only to Japan. The September 2021 “Okinawa Snack-out!” curation promoted Japan’s southernmost island with local snacks made in Okinawa. Cheesy crunchy CheeZacks’, Fatna Okinawa Shikuwasa, and a special summer ice cream-flavoured KitKat were included in the box.

August 2021’s “Tropical Treats” box highlighted Japan’s sea and sand culture; July’s “Summer Snackin’” ushered in the Japanese summer heat with cool and refreshing candy; and June’s “Anime Marathon Muchies!” partnered up with anime-streaming site funimation to share the best snacks for an anime binging session.
