The Most Popular Short-Haul Travel Destinations Among Hong Kongers in 2023

Following years-long pandemic restrictions, Hong Kongers join a wave of eager tourists excited to explore the world again. According to a recent report by travel booking site Trip.com, Hong Kongers continue to prefer short-haul flights for their so-called revenge travel.

Based on flight bookings, the top destinations among outbound tourists from Hong Kong in 2023 are Taipei, Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, and Osaka. These are the same destinations that topped the list prior to the pandemic.

Booking windows have returned to pre-pandemic levels, an indication that travelers have regained confidence in advanced bookings, the report said.

There are also signs of recovery in the local tourism sector, with Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park Hong Kong remaining popular among global tourists.

However, there is a notable interest among tourists from Malaysia and the Philippines, both of which were not among the top 10 tourists arrivals prior to the pandemic.
