Discover the connection between art and community at the “TypePOP Show” exhibition at AIRSIDE GATE33 Gallery running from now until June 12. Featuring four thematic zones that spread across the neighbourhoods of Kowloon City, San Po Kong, To Kwa Wan, and Wong Tai Sin, each artwork shows the artists’ interpretations of Hong Kong's culture and history.

The art exhibit presents the works of 10 contemporary artists, including Katol Lo, Jonathan Mak, Chi-wing Lee, and Adonian Chan.

One of the highlights of the show is the graphic designer and sign painter Katol Lo's "Infinite Mirror Room of Bestowment" in To Kwa Wan, where heartfelt messages between locals and merchants are displayed in a mirrored installation. Graphic designer Jonathan Mak's exhibit in Kowloon City, on the other hand, features messages from ethnically Thai children, creating an immersive intercultural experience with local signage.

Meanwhile, Chi-wing Lee of the renowned design studio Milk Design and Kennif Li took on San Po Kong exhibit and formed three-dimensional furniture depicting parts of Chinese characters that pay homage to the neighbourhood’s manufacturing roots of yesteryears.

In Wong Tai Sin, type designer Adonian Chan's presentation explores the connection between humanity and nature through contemporary type designs. Chan's collaboration with the local toy design unit LeeeeeeToy brings a playful element to the exhibit, inviting visitors to interact with toy sculptures featuring new Chinese characters symbolizing “Light, Path, and Heart.” Also collaborating with design studio HATO, they created a fun, digital interactive installation called “Zansyu Character.”

Aside from the works mentioned above, the exhibit also features three more units including To Kwa Wan vintage antique shop Jiksap, Citywording’s founder Dave Choi, and graphic designer Jason Chan from Coming-soon.

Check out their works across Hong Kong and Immerse yourself in the stories and sentiments that define Hong Kong's vibrant neighbourhoods.
