Kwong Fook I Tsz, also known as the Pak Shing Temple, is a historic temple located on Tai Ping Shan Street in Sheung Wan. Completed around 1856, it originally housed the spiritual tablets of non-local residents who passed away in Hong Kong and became a key site for critically ill Chinese patients at a time when Western medical treatment was uncommon. The temple’s significance led to government intervention in 1869, which helped establish Tung Wah Hospital, and I Tsz has been managed by the hospital ever since.
A restoration project launched in 2017 improved the temple’s condition and appearance, including replacing wooden roof beams and removing the front shelter. Recognized for its historical and cultural value, Kwong Fook I Tsz was declared a monument by the Hong Kong Government in 2026, making it a must-visit site for history enthusiasts and visitors alike.
