A collaboration between the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the French May Arts Festival and French GourMay Food and Wine festival, Happy French Wednesday promises to be the ultimate celebration of French art and culture and invites racegoers to experience the best of the country, from its delectable cuisine and exquisite wines to its captivating history and cherished cultural traditions.
Throughout the month of May, visitors will be transported to the picturesque City of Lights complete with charming storefronts, colourful flower boxes, blue and white awnings and floral-strewn bicycles and a mini Eiffel Tower.
France is renowned for its fine foods so expect a delectable menu of Gallic-inspired flavours and drinks. Fromage lovers will be able to sample the country’s finest selection alongside an expert cheese master. Happy Wednesday’s popular food truck and food counters will serve up gourmet treats and specialities including traditional cassoulet, Toulouse sausage, duck pâté baguette sandwiches alongside charcuterie and cheeses. Racegoers can also cool down with a specially-made Mojito featuring Sauternes wine, a summer favourite, at the Beer Garden or designated outlets within the racecourse.
Our restaurants, Keiba, The Gallery and Stable Bend Terrace, will be equally festive, serving mouth-watering dishes you can pair with a hearty glass of French wine. Reserve a spot for a night out with your friends via www.bookingrc.hkjc.com.
While much of the action will be centred around the racecourse, there is also plenty of fun to be had trackside. Roaming clowns and accordion players will recreate the lively atmosphere of Montmartre, while energetic Can-Can performers will transport guests to the iconic Moulin Rouge. Dancers decked out in elaborate Marie Antoinette-style fashions will keep energy levels high with their mix of classical period and modern dance. Game Masters will also be on hand to challenge guests with French trivia and other fun diversions.
The party vibe will continue with the best live entertainment Happy Wednesday is known for. DJ Shyne will make his debut at the Beer Garden with a drummer and saxophonist to get crowds pumping with infectious rhythms. Our local favourite and popular band On Point will return to the stage with a cool mix of everyday hits and French classics.
There’s no better place to experience the quintessential Joie de Vivre than at Happy French Wednesday this May.
