Refugee Week Hong Kong is kicking off its third year this June! With the theme “Our Home,” the event is set to welcome a vibrant arts and culture festival that celebrates the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees in the city.

With a series of activities set from June 15 to 23 in various venues, the festival is calling on individuals, artists, organizations, communities, and changemakers to gather and celebrate unity. It will kick off with the World Refugee Day Event at The Vine in Wan Chai, “From Strangers to Blessings.”

A free-entry Refugee Sunday Worship will also be held at the Kowloon Union Church on June 16, followed by a poetry night on June 19, featuring a collection of poems from writer and poet John Outsider, which will talk about hope and displacement.

On June 20, there will also be a “Drink for Justice” event, where guests can enjoy games, drinks, comedy, and more with the community. The event is happening at The Double in Taikoo Place, with an entry fee of HK$100. Get your tickets here.

This will be followed by a “Refugee Day Cultural Celebration” on June 21 at the St. Andrew’s Church Ampitheatre and a "Celebrating Our Humanity through Dance, Food, and Film” event at the Africa Center Hong Kong on June 22, where visitors can indulge in food, dance performances, a screening of the film “We Dare to Dream,” and more.

Closing the celebration is a repair and upcycling workshop, to be held on June 23 at the Gwobean studio.

Through the whole month, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Hong Kong is also hosting “The 17th Refugee Film Festival,” which will feature films centered around the stories of refugees. Click here to see screening schedules and buy tickets.
