The Ying’nFlo Guesthouse: Homely Oasis Amidst Hong Kong’s Bustling Streets

Nestled on a hilly street within a 24-story tower in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, you’ll find the Ying’nFlo guesthouse. Designed by Chinese interior studio Linehouse, the guesthouse emanates an inviting homely aura, thanks to its natural materials and muted colour palette.

The ground floor, housing communal spaces, is masterfully crafted to offer guests the much-sought-after comfort of home. The Collectors Room, the first space to welcome guests, boasts a neutral palette. Hand-rendered walls, timber panelling, and linen cabinetry showcasing curated objects and artworks welcome guests, while a communal oak table facilitates interaction.

The room seamlessly connects to an outdoor terrace through sliding glazed doors, where built-in bench seating and an olive tree invite guests to unwind and socialise. Further into the space, a gridded timber screen directs guests to the lift lobby and the playful Arcade room.

Next to the Arcade room, you'll find the Music Room, the social heart of the guesthouse. Ceramic tiles, a bespoke oak shelving system, and a custom sofa evoke a residential living room’s ambience. The Music Room opens to the garden Terrace, where circular seating in yellow-striped fabric offers a colourful contrast to the guesthouse’s overall neutral tones.

The guest rooms, located on the upper floor, feature ceilings painted in a muted green hue, echoing the colour used in window seating nooks and hand-glazed tiles in the bathroom and kitchen. A clean palette of plaster, wood, white-washed oak and canvas adds texture, while seating nooks and lounge furniture cater to guests’ diverse needs.

Linehouse, founded by Alex Mok and Briar Hickling, ensures each space withing the Ying’nFlo guesthouse exudes a warm welcoming feel, with vibrant elements providing a dash of youthful attitude and local context. The design studio’s ability to curate simplicity with a unique twist reflects their well-earned awards, making the Ying’nFlo guesthouse a true urban sanctuary.
