Step into a remarkable cultural journey with Reflections of the Sea of Mirrors: 500 Years of Exchange between Chinese and Western Civilizations in Macao, held at Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre, Lisboa, from April 18 to June 30, 2026, from 10 AM to 5:30 PM, open Tuesday to Sunday. With free admission, this exhibition invites audiences to uncover Macao’s rich legacy as a historic meeting point of East and West.

Through four thoughtfully curated themes, “The Transmission of the Art of Craftsmanship,” “The Harmony of Customs,” “The Flavor of Art,” and “The Art of Fusion,” visitors are guided through a multidimensional exploration of cultural exchange. Drawing from Macao’s World Heritage and Intangible Cultural Heritage, each section reveals how traditions, artistic expressions, and daily life have evolved through centuries of interaction between civilizations.

Highlighting Macao’s unique role as a “World Center of Tourism and Leisure,” a “Service Platform for Trade Cooperation,” and a “Base for Exchange and Cooperation to Promote Multicultural Coexistence,” the exhibition offers a compelling narrative of shared history and identity. Set within a museum dedicated to chronicling Macao’s multicultural story, this showcase presents history through a vibrant and contemporary lens.

The 4th Macao International Queer Film Festival (MIQFF) returns from June 5-27, 2026, bringing its largest program to date with a curated lineup of 24 feature films exploring LGBTQ+ stories, identities, and lived experiences from around the world.

This year’s edition carries the theme “Queertopia!/?,” reflecting on the evolving realities of queer life through cinema that challenges social norms, examines oppression, and celebrates love, freedom, and self-expression. As Macao’s only LGBTQ+-focused film festival, MIQFF continues its mission of fostering dialogue on gender and cultural diversity while creating a platform for queer voices to be seen and heard.

The festival opens with “Cyclone,” directed by Philip Yung, a drama following a transgender sex worker navigating identity, trauma, and survival after leaving Mainland China for Hong Kong. The film previously screened in the Big Screen Competition section at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2026 and served as the closing film of the 2026 Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Alongside screenings, MIQFF also features post-film discussions, talks, and community events throughout Pride Month. Don't miss out!
