Manila Bay Dolomite Beach to Close Every Thursday for Maintenance

Access to Manila Bay Dolomite Beach will be restricted on Thursdays to allow for maintenance work, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced on Wednesday.

"Please be informed that the Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach will be closed every Thursday for maintenance work,” the environmental agency said in a Facebook post.

The DENR said no visitors and vehicles will be permitted to enter the beach premises during maintenance. The one-day closure every Thursday will be a regular practice aimed to support operational continuity and ensure the public’s safety.

Just last June 12, the infamous man-made beach reopened its doors to the public and welcomed up to 3,500 fully vaccinated tourists at a given time, after its closure in November of last year for rehabilitation. However, the attraction’s reopening is only for visitation and sunset viewing purposes as swimming is not yet allowed due to the water’s high fecal coliform level.

The Manila Bay Dolomite Beach attracted controversy when it first opened in 2020, as opposition figures said the P389 million budget should have been allocated for the country’s COVID-19 response.
