Iconic restaurant Josephine in Tagaytay City, known for its beloved bulalo and other gastronomic offerings and comfort food that remind us of home, has permanently closed down.

The institution, which has been around for decades, will now be replaced by a new dining concept under The Vikings Group of Restaurants. In a statement via Facebook on Jan. 17, NIU SM Aura Premier, one of the group's high-end buffets, said it intends to "continue the legacy" of Josephine as its former location will house a new restaurant called Rosario.

Although the statement did not say when Rosario would open, the new restaurant is sure to "excite food enthusiasts and Tagaytay City's tourists and locals" as it endeavors to become one of the best places for traditional Filipino food.

Rosario will include heirloom recipes using fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods to "[evoke] happy memories of huge gatherings around the family dinner table."

"The Vikings Group has never stopped in its pursuit of making its mark in the Filipino food industry and the heart of its beloved Filipino patrons," the statement read. "Their dedication to excellence has made them known for unforgettable experiences, service, and flavor. And this trademark will continue to be upheld in all our brands wherever we may serve you."

Located along General E. Aguinaldo Highway, Josephine Restaurant has long been a popular choice among tourists and locals alike who make the drive to Tagaytay City for weekend getaways and day trips. It is also a favored event and wedding reception destination, thanks to its impeccable food and beautiful views of Taal Volcano.

The Vikings Group manages a slew of restaurant concepts, namely buffet chain Vikings, Niu by Vikings, Tong Yang Express/Plus, Four Seasons Buffet and Hotpot, Mey-Lin, Panda Shabu-Shabu, and more.
