Where to go for Fête de la Musique 2024: Performances and Events

Fete PH 2013

Fête de la Musique is magical in France, as the entire country comes out to celebrate the beloved art. People dance on cobblestone steps, backdropped by sunsets that come past 9 PM. Music floating everywhere, accordion players and violinists behind every nook and cranny, and salsa dancers navigating twists at every street corner. Stages are set up for big bands to play, while crowds gather for the humble busker or street dancer to perform.

In the Philippines, Fête de la Musique is somewhat different, and somewhat the same. Filipinos have that trademark love for music that the French aim to celebrate every June 21; and so, much like our European counterparts, Filipinos will take the fête as a good excuse to dance the night away.

Now having been celebrated for 30 years, Fête de la Musique in the Philippines is bigger and better than ever – it’s gone nationwide. What started out as a humble concert in Malate thirty years ago – headlined by three bands and attended by a crowd of less than fifty – has snowballed into an all-out party that lasts the entirety of June. Here’s what you can expect for the coming celebration.

June 16, 2024 (Sunday): Music Heals

Kickstarting weeks of celebration, Fête de la Musique Philippines introduces “Music Heals,” a free event taking place at Ayala Triangle Gardens beginning at 5 PM. Amid the glow of sunset, attendees are invited to explore the restorative properties of music through sound healing sessions and meditative frequencies. A first for Fête, this community activity aims to bring everyone together to experience the rejuvenating powers of music away from the usual club scene.

June 20, 2024 (Thursday): Pfel & Greem Performance

Frequenters of Raffles Hotel are in for a treat as French DJ duo, Pfel & Greem of C2C, host a performance at Mistral. Executing a set from their award-winning album, “Victoires de la Musique,” Pfel & Greem take the dancefloor with an explosive four-turntable performance.

June 21, 2024 (Friday): Open Concert

The official day of Fête de la Musique is commemorated with an incredible opening day concert at Greenbelt 3 Park. Music lovers are invited to arrive by 4 PM in order to hear incredible sets from a variety of artists and bands. Hear from Shanni, Jason Dhakal x Lustbass, Sinosikat x Miguel Jose, Dwata, Jewelmer Jazz Band, Pfel & Greem, Autotelic, Morobeats, Dilaw, and Any Name’s Okay in a concert that will stretch to midnight.

June 22, 2024 (Saturday): Sonik Soiree & Afterparty

Those who celebrated Fête last year may remember Sonik Sessions. This year, they host their second installment, producing a conference that seems to educate attendees on both the business side and the music side of the local industry. To be held at the Astbury, the Sonik Soiree will feature Gwen Sharp of The Green Room France, who will also speak on sustainability in the cultural sector. This will be followed by an afterparty at Boogie MNL.

June 28, 2024 (Friday): Pocket Stages

A scene from Fete de la Musique 2019

Perhaps the most well-known aspect of Fête de la Musique Philippines is its pocket stages. Traditionally held in Poblacion – with different bars hosting artists from different genres of music - the pocket stages are a perfect excuse to barhop and have fun. This year, Fete is proud to introduce over 41 multiple independently produced pocket stages all around Metro Manila. As usual, Poblacion will host a majority of these, with the Blues, Soul & Funk Stage at H&J, the Funk & Disco Stage at Z Hostel, and the World Music Stage at White Banana.

Other activations will also be ongoing; for example, a street party at Ebro Street will see the Bandang x Stage, celebrating bands from the 90s. The Punk Stage will also be held in Mandaluyong at One Two Three Block, while the PLANET Stage takes Nokal with well-known DJs such as Margachi and Butta B. If you're closer to the North side of Metro Manila, then there will be performances as well in Marikina City.

June 21-29, 2024: Destination Stages

Not in Metro Manila? No worries. Fête de la Musique proudly announces an incredible lineup of almost 70 stages across 20 different destinations. These will take place throughout the week in Albay, Bacoor (Cavite), Baguio, Baler (Quezon), Cagayan de Oro (Misamis Oriental), Cebu City, Davao City, El Nido (Palawan), Los Baños (Laguna), Masbate, Naga City (Camarines Sur), Pampanga, Puerto Galera (Oriental Mindoro), Siargao (Surigao del Norte), South Cotabato, and Zambales.
