10cm Talks K-Drama OSTs, Dream Collabs, & More Ahead of Manila Concert
If you’re an avid K-drama watcher, “But It’s Destiny” from “Crash Landing on You” or “Drawer” from “Our Beloved Summer” might have been on your playlist for quite some time. The voice behind these iconic, heartwarming original soundtracks (OSTs) is none other than South Korean singer-songwriter Kwon Jung-yeol, better known for his musical persona, 10cm.
Come Aug. 31, the crooner known for his distinguishable vocals is set to serenade his Filipino fans live in his first-ever solo concert in Manila, “Closer to You.” Prior to his debut show in the country, The Beat Asia and members of the media sat down with the K-indie artist to talk about his upcoming concert, dream collaborations, and stories behind his hit OST "Spring Snow," among others.
With a career spanning over 10 years, 10cm is continuing to find success with the release of his recent soundtrack “Spring Snow,” which became equally successful as its counterpart drama “Lovely Runner.” According to him, however, while he thought the song perfectly fit the drama, he did not expect it to boom as well as the latter.
Earlier this year, he also released a remake of We Are the Night’s “Tiramisu Cake” as a collaboration track with the 2022 film “The Last 10 Years,” which also became an instant hit in and out of South Korea.
After all these achievements, we asked 10cm if his fans would expect something again from him this year. To this end, the singer revealed that while he is not planning to drop new music soon, he wants to “release a song in the Philippines” in the future.
Beyond lending his voice to OSTs of hit K-dramas such as “Queen of Tears,” “My Demon,” and “Start-Up,” 10cm etched his name into the Korean music industry with his own creations. Talking about his process of making music, the singer-songwriter reveals that one thing he does to create a song that resonates with listeners is to draw lyrics from his favorite lines in K-dramas.
10cm is also known for his collaborations and has worked with artists such as EXO’s Chen, Girls’ Generation’s Yoona, and hip-hop act Big Naughty, among others. When asked about other artists he'd love to work with in the future, 10cm mentioned two familiar names in the Philippine music scene: TJ Monterde, who he has previously performed with during a concert here in the Philippines, and Zack Tabudlo, one of the country’s most promising singer-songwriters.
The singer also offered the media a preview of his show, singing snippets of songs he would like to dedicate to Filipino fans, including his latest single, “Late Night Walk."
Much like his tour title, “Closer to You,” the K-indie act said that he aims to get closer to his fans through the concert. Inviting his fans to watch the concert, 10cm says, “I hope everyone’s going to enjoy [my concert]. I prepared a lot for it, so I hope everyone will come to the show and have fun with me. Thank you!”
