Bus, Train Fares to Increase Due to Rising Energy Prices, Says PTC

Public transportation fares in Singapore will increase by up to five cents starting Dec. 26 due to a spike in energy prices, the Public Transport Council (PTC) announced on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Adult card fares will increase by four cents for a journey of up to 8.2 kilometres, and five cents for a journey farther than 8.2 kilometres. Students and senior citizens using concession cards will also have to pay increased fares, but they’ll be capped at one cent per journey.

Meanwhile, prices for monthly concession passes and adult monthly travel passes will remain the same.

“The Public Transport Council (PTC) has decided to grant a fare increase of 2.9% for the 2022 Fare Review Exercise (FRE), balancing the need to keep fares affordable for commuters in a period of rising inflation, while ensuring the sustainability of Singapore’s public transport system amidst rising costs,” the PTC said in their Fare Review Exercise 2022.
