Daiso Bids Goodbye to S$2 Promo With New 15-Tier Pricing System
Japanese budget retail chain Daiso announced a 15-tier pricing system, effective May 1, breaking away from its popular S$2 promo on most products.
The new pricing ranges from S$2.14 to S$25.47, which takes into account the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The Singapore prices are pegged to the Japanese yen and are color coded. The most expensive items are under the dark orange label and are priced between S$23.33 and S$25.47, equivalent to JPY1,400 to JPY1,500.
Daiso first announced the price hike earlier this month in anticipation of the two-phase increase in the GST.
Effective January 2023, the GST will be hiked to 8% from 7%. By 2024, this will go up to 9%.
With 29 stores across Singapore, Daiso is known for selling homeware items, gardening and DIY tools, and small electric goods at affordable prices.
