Orto Leisure Park and Kampung Kampus to Close in Mid-2023 to Make Way for New Housing, Says Report

Another recreational area is saying goodbye in Singapore. The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) told The Straits Times on Sunday, Aug. 7, that Orto leisure park and Kampung Kampus will need to vacate their premises by mid next year to make way for new housing developments.

The two tenants will have their leases expire by the end of 2022, but the SLA has extended it until June 30, 2023, as part of the transition. They will then need to relocate within the 70,000 square-metre state land in Lorong Chencharu.

Orto is a 24-hour leisure park in Yishun that opened in 2014. It took over Bottle Tree Park and has become the home of family-friendly al fresco food and beverage (F&B) outlets, prawning and fishing businesses, a trampoline park, and the Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum. The Kampung Kampus, on the other hand, is the home of non-profit Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) where they host different programs that focus on sustainability, such as cooking, farming, and crafts.

A spokesman for Orto said some tenants might relocate to a commercial building in the vicinity of Haw Par Villa MRT Station. As for the museum, GUI is currently in discussion with the authorities where its new site will be.
