New Central Area Cycling Paths Open, Connect to MRT Stations
Singaporeans working in the central business district (CBD) can now move around easily with the newly opened central area cycling paths.
Launched on Sunday, Nov. 27, the six-kilometre path connects the Clarke Quay, Tanjong Pagar, and Telok Ayer MRT stations as well as the new Shenton Way, Marina Bay, and Gardens by the Bay stations along the Thomson-East Coast Line.
This brings the total cycling network in the area to 21 kilometres, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
The new cycling paths are mostly on existing or widened pavements showing cyclist logos and solid or dashed red or yellow lines.
The LTA also noted in a Facebook post that 14 developments in the area have tapped their Active Commute Grant (ACG) to provide cyclists with end-of-trip facilities, such as lockers, shower rooms, and changing rooms.
The ACG is an initiative by the LTA that co-funds up to 80% of construction costs, with up to a maximum of S$80,000 per development.
