New SG Automated Immigration Lanes Open for Wheelchair Users, Families of 4

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has introduced an automated lane in their New Clearance Concept (NCC) called the Special Assistance Lane (SAL) for travellers in wheelchairs and families of four travelling with young children. This makes Singapore the first in the world to allow multiple travellers to pass through immigration using automated lanes.

The SAL is currently available to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders. Eligible foreign visitors will have to wait until March 2023 to use the new lanes. Here’s how it works:

  • Step 1: Select the number of pax, from one to four.
  • Step 2: Scan your passport(s) and proceed once the entry flapper opens.
  • Step 3: Present your biometrics: iris and facial scans. If both are unsuccessful, the secondary biometric identifier will be the travellers’ fingerprints.
  • Step 4: Exit the lane when second flapper opens.

Travellers can also check out ICA’s video below to understand the process better.

The SALs are available at the Terminal 1 Departure Hall and Terminal 2 Arrival and Departure Halls of Changi International Airport.
