Upcycled Sumatran Tiger Sculpture on Display at Marina Bay Sands to Promote Sustainability

A 10x7 meter upcycled sculpture of the critically endangered Sumatran tiger is on full display at Marina Bay Sands. Created by world-renowned street artist Bordalo II from Portugal, the giant colourful sculpture is one of the Lion city’s efforts to urge Singaporeans to play a part in a greener and more sustainable future.

In a Facebook post, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) revealed the volume of garbage thrown in Singapore has increased since 1982. “Here in Singapore, the amount of waste disposed of has increased seven-fold over the last 40 years. At our current rate of waste disposal, Semakau Landfill is projected to run out of space by 2035. Let’s do our part to reduce our footprint today,” the MSE said.

According to world-leading investment banking company UBS, the Sumatran tiger sculpture is just one of the upcoming projects of “Trash-Sure,” a campaign that uses art to promote sustainability, conservation, and biodiversity.
