This Singapore Café Lets You Play ‘Squid Game’s’ Honeycomb Challenge
With South Korea’s hit breakout series “Squid Game” on track to become Netflix’s most-watched show in any language, it’s no wonder that brands want to get their share of the pie, too.
Brown Butter, a café along Orchard Road, is quick to cash in on the trend by allowing its customers to play the honeycomb challenge in exchange for a free iced latte.
For the uninitiated, the challenge is based on “Squid Game’s” episode three where the dystopic survival drama’s players are asked to carve the shape out of a wafer-thin honeycomb candy called dalgona without breaking it. Anyone who breaks the design or fails to trace it out within the designated time is killed.
Fortunately, no one dies in Brown Butter’s honeycomb challenge. According to their rules, participants can choose among three shapes to carve out: circle, star, or heart. They have two minutes to trace the shape and whoever does so successfully will draw a card, with prizes including a complementary latte and Ali’s pebbles. Unsuccessful players, meanwhile, will have to post a photo of themselves along with Brown Butter’s black box.
Brown Butter’s honeycomb challenge is open to dine-in customers during the weekdays of Sept. 29-Oct. 24, 2021, from 12 noon to 6 PM.
