Minimalist Cafés in Singapore That Will Spark Joy in Your IG Feed

Minimalism is all the rage these days, thanks to the joy-sparking concept of “less-is-more.” Minimalist spaces often evoke “extreme spareness and simplicity” and highlight the bare essentials while doing away with clutter. In Singapore, café owners are catching up on this trend by toying with clean lines, bare walls, and a monochromatic palette to create a space where guests can enjoy a serene ambiance minus the bustle of the outside world.

If you are looking for a cozy and Instagram-worthy place to sip good brew, check out these minimalist cafés in Singapore.

Daizu Café

This two-storey loft café achieves the minimalist look with its pale walls and earth-tone furniture. Every morning, sunlight streams into the first floor, giving off a natural ambiance as guests begin to trickle in for a cup of joe. Daizu Café’s menu is a fusion of Japanese and Western cuisines, consisting of brunch items, pasta, rice bowls and mains, desserts, coffee, tea, and alcohol. It also has an outdoor spot for your furry four-legged companion!

Location: 129 Rangoon Road 218407

Bearded Bella

The bright pops of pink dominating its façade might fool you into thinking that Bearded Bella is another bold and loud café, but once you enter and see its interiors, you’d think otherwise. The centrepiece of its minimalist influence is the bar counter, which features muted tones and gold accents that make a nice contrast to the entire café’s busiest spot. We recommend their Grilled Cheese and Prosciutto Sandwich (S$20), Cheesy Fusilli With Bacon (S$20), and Black Cold Brew (S$12).

Locations: 8 Craig Road, Tanjong Pagar/73 Hillcrest Road, Bukit Timah

% Arabica Singapore

This famous coffee chain from Kyoto, Japan sticks to its signature monochromatic design that complements that usually busy space filled with chit-chatting coffee drinkers. With multiple branches in Singapore and all over the world, % Arabica maintains its quality roasted beans when brewing their specialty blends and single-origin coffee.

Locations: 56 Arab Street/313 @ Somerset/Chip Bee Gardens/Jewel Changi Airport

The Glass House

If Japanese retail company Muji were to have a coffee shop counterpart, then The Glass House would make the cut. Plants dot the space and accentuate the earthy-coloured furnishings, while the glass window make way for natural light to peek through. We recommend Glasshouse Cubanos (S$18) and Grilled Cheese Sandwich (S$16), both of which go well with Black Cold Brew (S$6.50) or Iced White Coffee (S$5.50).

Location: Chijmes, 30 Victoria Street, #01-03

Alchemist

This café is housed in a national heritage landmark and features an open-concept bar that does away with barriers between the baristas and the customers. Alchemist’s blue-and-white countertop easily stands out, providing a nice balance with the minimalist furnishings throughout the entire café. Whether you want to enjoy a cup alone or have a brew over chit-chat with friends, Alchemist will offer a cosy ambiance and a nice selection of coffee and baked goods. It is open from 8 AM to 5 PM on weekdays, and 9 AM to 6 PM on weekends.

Location: 2 MacTaggart Rd
