A much easier immigration process is set to be implemented at all checkpoints in Singapore, as more automated lanes will open by the second half of the year.

All foreign visitors can now enter the city without prior registration and leave without presenting their passports.

Introducing this technological advancement last year, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is now gearing up to launch its biometric clearance in full force, with a total of 230 lanes scheduled to open this year on top of the already-opened 160 lanes last year.

As part of ICA’s New Clearance Concept, the automated lanes will record travellers' information by using multi-modal biometrics that capture a person’s iris, facial, and fingerprint details instead of the manual ones.

This launch will mark Singapore as the first in the world to do this kind of process. With ICA’s continuous efforts to improve the experience of foreign visitors and locals, the automated lanes aim to significantly increase the number of tourists coming in and out of the city.
