LASALLE, NAFA Join Forces to Form University of the Arts Singapore

The University of the Arts Singapore (UAS), the first-ever government-supported private university of the arts, will open its doors in 2024, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a press release.

In an alliance between LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), the UAS will open applications in the third quarter of 2023 for its opening in August 2024. The Pro-Tem Committee and Professor Chan Heng Chee, who was appointed as its chairman, has worked closely with the two institutions and stakeholders to develop the new university’s structure and operating model.

“The name University of the Arts Singapore was jointly decided upon by NAFA and LASALLE, following extensive consultations with key stakeholders including Board members, management, staff, alumni and students from the two arts institutions,” the MOE said in a statement.

“When established, the new university will contribute towards the arts and culture ecosystem in Singapore,” the MOE added.

The students and graduates of its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will be an addition to Singapore’s diverse talent pool in the arts and humanities. The UAS will also contribute towards making the city-state “a creative, innovation–driven city, and a thought leader in the creative arts in Southeast Asia and beyond.”

More information about UAS can be found on its website.
