SMRT Discontinues Night Rider Services and Two Other Bus Services

SMRT Night Rider services and two other bus services (188R and 926) will be discontinued from June 30, the SMRT Corporation Ltd. announced in a press release on Thursday, June 16.

Night Rider (NR) services — NR1, NR2, NR3, NR5, NR6, and NR8 — are overnight bus routes that the SMRT operates after midnight on Fridays, Saturdays, and during the eve of public holidays. These have been suspended since 2020 due to the pandemic.

Commuters who ride Service 188R from Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Batok to Resorts World Sentosa are advised to take the MRT or Service 188 instead to HarbourFront MRT Station and connect to the Sentosa Express Monorail or the RWS8 shuttle service. Commuters can also connect to Service 123 at Tiong Bahru MRT Station.

Commuters who ride Service 926 to Singapore Zoo, on the other hand, can take alternatives, such as Service 138 from Ang Mo Kio and Springleaf MRT Stations, Service 927 from Choa Chu Kang MRT Station, or the Mandai Khatib Shuttle from Khatib MRT Station.

“The decision to withdraw these bus services comes after carefully evaluating factors such as ridership, availability of alternatives, financial prudency and freeing up finite resources. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for these bus services has been low and there are alternatives available to commuters,” the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in response to queries made by TODAY.
