New Year's Resolution Ideas You Can Commit to This 2022

New Years Resolution Ideas 1

It’s the last day of 2021. You know what that means: new year, new me. Kidding aside, a gentle reminder that this newness does not have to be anything grand. You do not have to resolve to travel more this year if you simply do not have the means to or have other priorities to attend to (and hello, we’re still in the middle of a pandemic), nor do you have to suddenly change up your entire wardrobe or move to a different place or rage-quit your job when what you have now satisfies your needs and allows you enough time to care for yourself and your loved ones.

We seem to have this idea that New Year’s resolutions must be huge, but we believe that is not true. These can be as small as making incremental changes in your daily habits, such as allotting a few minutes of your morning for meditation or resolving to exercise more throughout the week and just being kinder to yourself in general.

To get started on a more compassionate path this 2022, check out our New Year’s resolution ideas.

Be Kinder to Yourself

New Year's resolutions

We mentioned this above, but it requires repeating. This 2022, be kinder to yourself. In the digital age, it feels as if every minute and second must be optimized. We aren’t robots, though, so resist this kind of thinking. Take a deep breath, slow down, and work at your own pace.

Volunteer

If the situation allows for it, why not volunteer? Nothing feels better than dedicating your precious time to a cause or advocacy you fully believe in.

Make More Time for Passions

This year, make more time for your passions! Whether it’s building puzzles, reading, watercolor painting, building Legos, writing poetry or what-have-you, make sure you allot enough time for them to nourish your soul.

Read One Book A Month

New Year's resolutions

Related to resolving to make more time for your passions, if you love to read but found that you have not been able to do that much in 2021, now’s the time to make it your resolution. If you find that one book a month is too much, start small, such as reading 10 or 15 pages a day.

Do a General Cleaning of Your Space

That’s right. Time to unleash your inner Marie Kondo. You probably have some clothes that you no longer wear and want, or an excess of books and other furniture that may be old but are still usable. Run through your things and decide which ones should stay and go. Once you’ve done this, you can donate them to your public libraries, shelters, recycling centers, and junk shops around your area.

Lessen Your Carbon Footprint

In this day and age, there's no excuse for anyone to simply not care or be nonchalant about the climate crisis and the complicities of our own consumption. This 2022, we urge you to start lessening your own carbon footprint by following these simple tips. Incremental changes go a long way.

Call Your Friends More

You probably spent a considerable amount of your time chatting with friends during the pandemic, what with our cancelled meetups and hangouts, but when was the last time you actually called them and heard their voice? This 2022, resolve to call your friends more on the phone and ask them how they really are instead of just sending a quick text over. Chances are, they’ll appreciate and love you for it. Just make sure you call on their free time and not during work hours!

Cook More and Experiment with New Cuisines

New Year's resolutions

Having food delivered had become a norm this 2021 during the pandemic. This 2022, why not try to work on your skills in the kitchen? You save more this way, plus you do not have to deal with unnecessary plastics that are unfriendly to the environment. Make your time in the kitchen fun by trying out different cuisines and cooking together with your family! To share the joy, send some over to your friends, too!
